Everything You Need to Know about Heated Tile

November 24, 2014

The winter weather is well on its way here in the Kansas City area, meaning we are all trying to seek relief from the frigid temperatures. But sometimes it’s difficult to warm up at home, especially when your tile floors are as cold as ice on your bare feet. If you love the look of your tile floors, but don’t love its chilly feel, you should consider heated tile flooring with Kenny’s Tile.

It’s difficult enough to get going in the morning, but even harder in the winter when you know you’ll be freezing when you tear yourself away from the warm comforts of your bed. Imagine walking into your kitchen or bathroom in the morning and having your feet greeted with a nice warm touch from your floors. It would definitely make the mornings a little less painful. Here’s what you need to know about heated tile flooring, and why it’s really a godsend during the long Midwest winters.

Where & How to Use Heated Tile

We can install the heated tile system in your home that’s currently being built or in a home that’s being remodeled. It works well in small or large areas of your home. Heated tile can comfortably heat your floors and your home without the drying effects of forced air heating. It’s also very efficient at heating your home as long as you have sufficient insulation, and is virtually maintenance free.

How Heated Tile Is Installed

Don’t be afraid of the heated tile. We promise it won’t overheat your floors and burn the bottoms of your feet. The way we install the heated flooring allows for the heat to penetrate your tile without getting too hot. We start by pouring a gravel base, lay down a layer of concrete, and then systematically install the cables. They are typically installed horizontally in a snake pattern to be the most effective and to cover the most ground. And we always allow for 4-6 inches between the heated cables and the walls of the room to prevent fire hazards. Then we lay another thin layer of concrete before laying down the finished tile flooring.
