Flooring Design Secrets from the Design Experts at Kenny’s Tile

June 28, 2013

When it comes to flooring, Kenny’s Tile is the king. From tile and stone to carpet to hardwood, Kenny’s can make your home look great. One of the biggest advantages you’ll find at Kenny’s Tile vs. home improvement stores is our design team. Our a design team is made up of folks with accredited college degrees in interior design who are also allied members of the American Society of Interior Designers and the Home Builders Association. In short, they can help you put together the styles, colors, and designs give your home that designer touch. In that spirit, we asked our designers to give us some of their favorite tips to share with homeowners in Kansas City. Here are some of their best secrets for flooring:

Tiles set diagonally make a room look larger – whenever we have a homeowner who has a room that is smaller than they desire, we give them this tip. This works especially well in bathrooms, laundry rooms and smaller entryways. They are always surprised at how much larger the area appears.

Choose a grout color that blends in to highlight the tile not the grout joint – many people spend lots of time deciding on the tile and don’t think much about the grout color. The color of the grout will definitely affect the overall look of the design. If you want the beauty of the individual tiles to stand out, stick with a similar color. Contrasting grout colors are great when you want to draw attention to the overall pattern and sequencing of the tiles across the floor.

Always use an eight-pound carpet pad for ultimate comfort – when carpeting a room, you don’t want to invest in good carpet and skimp on the pad. Conversely, you don’t want to overpay for a thick pad that you don’t need. An eight-pound pad will provide plenty of comfort for your feet and support for your carpet.
